Description and operation

Definitive Ecology’s INFLORDRUM is an internally fed rotary drum screen with connection to the plant pipeline by means of an inlet flange. The drum is installed with a horizontal axis on a base frame and it can be equipped with an optional openable cover for splash-free operation. The drum can be supplied with a self-cleaning wedge wire to optimise solids separation and cleaning, with aperture from 0.25 to 4.5 mm, and with perforated plate with aperture of 1 or 3 mm. The drum is kept clean by a system of medium pressure nozzles. The drum is supported by wheels held in high load capacity long life bearings and having special hard-wearing polyurethane tyres. By means of a system composed of helical sectors inside the drum, the separated solids are transported to a discharge tank from which they are emptied by gravity. There are no mechanical parts inside the drum and there are no parts requiring maintenance in contact with the wastewater. The motor of model MRD is directly flanged to the drum, while model RD has a chain and/or gear transmission system. The drum is cleaned by two rows of “high impact” nozzles: one outside and one inside the drum, with water pressure of 6-8 bar. It is advantageous to use hot water when screening wastewater with high F.O.G. contents, as in the case of slaughterhouses, tanneries, etc.

The operating principle involves wastewater inlet inside a feed tank, with a spillway that discharges the liquid tangentially on the surface of the drum. The liquid then flows through the apertures in the drum while solids larger than the spacing are retained on the internal surface of the drum. The separated solids are transported to the discharge position by spiral sectors while the washing water is discharged together with the wastewater and its contents of soluble substances.
